Before the summer holidays, our annual exhibition always marks the end of the weekly art school. The young artists present their work to an audience and show what they have discovered and developed over the year. A representative setting, invited guests, a formal opening and the presentation of the works provide the framework. Parents and relatives gain an insight into the children’s creative practice.

It is a special moment when many individual works of art come together to form one large shared exhibition.

Voixfest is part of Volkshilfe Upper Austria’s event series “Together for Respect and Tolerance”. Atelier Wels takes part every year with its own participatory stand on the grounds of Alter Schl8hof in Wels.

People from the ages of zero to 100 are invited to create together and connect through conversation.

For us, one thing is clear: creativity connects people, creates encounters and knows no age limits.

For International Women’s Day, we explored “catcalling” – verbal harassment in public spaces – through creative work. In discussions with the participants, experiences were brought into the open and made strikingly visible through artistic engagement. Typical unwanted remarks were sewn, printed or painted onto clothing and household textiles. The demonstration that followed in central Wels sent a visible and audible message for respect and self-determined coexistence. The aim was to raise awareness of the issue.

At “MKH goes public”, young talents had the opportunity to present themselves and their work to the public. Students from Atelier Wels also took part and shared their creative work with a broad audience. That evening at Medien Kultur Haus (MKH) Wels, more than 150 visitors admired the young artists’ work. The pictures and sculptures remained on display in publicly accessible rooms for two months.

The event gives young artists a platform to build confidence and make their art visible.

Around 20 members of the Rotary Club Wels Nova spent a creative club evening at Atelier Wels in mid-April. After a brief introduction to the history of Atelier Wels, they put on painting smocks and got to work with brushes and bright colours. Guided by chairwoman MMag. Reichmayr, the dynamic process, full of movement and good humour, produced nine large and colourful paintings. They now hang in the medical practices of two club members, where they can be viewed.

With a generous donation, the Wels service club recognised the work of Atelier Wels. The contribution helps cover part of the annual cost of art materials.
